Location : Baton Rouge

During the 17th and 18th centuries it was common practice to place a cast iron fireback behind the wood grate in one's fireplace to protect the chimney base and to hold heat for a longer period that radiated out to turn those chill winter days into a more comfortable temperature. This example is in excellent condition, and features an embossed urn pattern out of deference to the reign of Louis XVI who returned classicism to the architecture of France.
