The weather station of the 19th century, wall-mounted instruments such as this splendid example were treasured and observed many times during the day by those whose livelihoods were affected by Mother Nature. This example, found in the Black Forest region, features the trademark twisted grapevine motif that has enamored collectors for centuries, but with an added twist ~ a pair of lovebirds at the top, rendered in remarkably lifelike detail, signify that this barometer/thermometer was presented as a wedding or anniversary gift to a lucky couple!
