Never a really common item, Black Forest pedestal jardinieres like this are getting more rare each year. This example, carved from solid French red oak, features the classic naturalistic theme that is a trademark of the region, with avian, foliate and tree branch motifs that will work with any rustic or Old World decor. The top was lined to protect the woodwork from the watering of the fresh flowers and herbs that would brighten up one's decor in days of old.
