By the turn of the century manufacturing methods for everyday items had benefitted from the Industrial Revolution, but items such as this water kettle were, even though the main kettle was formed by a machining process, the spout and handles were hand-soldered onto the kettle. The interior was still plated with tin, as this was the preferred sealing material that would not lend much taste to the water boiled within, unlike copper, brass or iron.
