The region around Bresse, France, has developed a unique look in its hand-crafted furnishings over the centuries, and this armoire is a wonderful example of that uniqueness! Crafted from the indigenous walnut, which is prized the world over as one of the finest furniture and gunstock woods, it is fitted with solid burl walnut panels harvested from the bottom of the trunk where the root extensions create fantastic grain patterns in the living wood.
These are not burl veneer panels, they are solid through and through, boasting its original patina!
Simple and charming, carvings of tulips provide subtle accents on the crown, stile, corner-posts and apron, in keeping with local tradition, in order to accentuate the natural beauty of the wood. The hand-forged steel hinges allow the doors to open 180 degrees, making this an ideal candidate to place an entertainment center. Pierced steel ferrures guard the keyholes with aplomb!
