For centuries the way to store delectable jellies, jams and preserves in any respectable French kitchen was in a confit pot, and this Country French example is an exceptionally well-preserved specimen! Shaped with a curled lip so that a seal could be easily tied in place, they were glazed on the inside and continuously around the lip onto the shoulders of the urn to inhibit absorption into the fired clay. Completely hand-made, such examples make excellent groupings for a provincial decor.Ca. 1880's
