Imagine our pleasure when we discovered this exceptional double-crowned French antique armoire in lower Brittany, in city of Nante, crafted from fine imported mahogany, no less! Such exotic New World woods were expensive to bring to Europe, and only the wealthy and royalty could afford to have furniture made from the material. In a departure from the traditional crown, armoires from this region sometimes sported the crown you see before you, modelled after an upturned archer’s bow. Finely scrolled framework around the otherwise unadorned door panels allow the sheer natural beauty of the wood to shine through. Brass hinges and ferrures complete the look.
