The Directoire style has continued to inspire designers even two centuries after its inception, and this example, rendered from exotic imported mahogany during the late 19th century, represents a "revival" of the genre. Tailored architecture, devoid of carved embellishments, instead relies on the sheer beauty of the wood and fine molded accents to create the look. Brass molding on the drawer facades and sides combines with the brass pulls and column rings to provide a contrasting highlight. Tapered legs feature fluting that is mirrored in the three-quarter style cornerposts all around. Capacious storage is also afforded by the hand-dovetailed drawers.
