During the latter half of the 19th century it was in vogue to decorate one's kitchens and dining areas with fine imported Oriental porcelain for use in decorating all around the home. As is the case with most ceramics, however, it is hard to find intact specimens due to their inherent fragility. This example represents a somewhat uncommon vase with brass cap and base indicating that it could have been used as a decanter or simply a way to adorn the mantel.
