A wonderful still life rendered by hand-painted oil on canvas, this work is another example of the resurgence of the popularity of such works in 19th century Europe. Brilliant use of color, light and shadow make the floral bouquet seem to leap off the canvas, with a touch of texture in the foreground in the form of a tapestry runner adding depth. Remarkably well preserved, it appears in its original frame.
