Perhaps perusing the object of his affection, this courtier has put on his finest clothes, strapped on his foile, and brought a long his lute in the hopes of successfully wooing his loved one. Such themes were common during the Second Empire, and were frequently executed with remarkable detail and realism. This example features a black patinaed finish with gold highlights that blends perfectly with the beveled and footed slate base. Brass Roman numerals and hands on the clockface dial provide elegant contrast. Fully restored to working order, it will provide the perfect enhancement on the mantel, shelf or buffet of your favorite room.
