Antique French Cavalry Sabre
2504-321A
(Click the Item No. for an inquiry)42" long overall

Location : Dallas

The cavalry charge was the most fearsome battle technique across the globe for centuries. Imagine the lowly foot soldier standing in mud facing a wall of 3,000 pound animals galloping three times as fast as he could possibly run, headed straight for him... Up until the late 19th century, at best he was armed with a single shot rifle. The cavalry officer, however, could not control a galloping horse and at the same time wield a rifle which by itself requires two hands. They would instead rely on their sheer intimidation factor, and weild a long, sharp sabre to cut down their enemies as they passed at what was then considered earth-shaking speeds.
This example, with long, slightly curved blade, features a solid brass curass with contoured & ribbed handle for sure grip and protection against an enemy with a similar weapon.
Circa 1870s.
Measures 42" overall; blade measures 36”.
