Meticulously fashioned from cast bronze and hand-hammered copper on a grand scale, this large jardiniere was intended to magnify the effect of a centerpiece floral display. Timeless gryffin motifs combine with the pierced rail and lion's paw feet to create a perfect framework for the piece, but the center focal point of an embossed fleur de lys on a heraldic crest over an olive branch makes this a superb example of Napoleon III period finery.
