This period antique French commode, classically styled by provincial craftsmen in Normandie, features foliates inspired by the meadows of that region, carved in relief across the drawer facades and side panels. Simply fluted apron and cornerposts add architectural effect, with beaded diamonds around the keyholes. The original painted finish which is understandably distressed after two centuries, includes a faux-marble painted top which is amazingly realistic even after the ravages of time. Three capacious drawers provide functionality. Pegged mortise and tenon joinery and dovetailing were all crafted by hand in the timeless traditions of the menusier.
