Meticulously hand-carved from solid French fruitwood, then given a painted finish that has achieved a lovely patina over the decades, consoles such as this were in vogue during the Beaux Artes period and belonged to a style later called "Paris Country", the predecessor to the current shabby chic trend. This example is remarkably well preserved with its original Carrara marble top.
