Location: Baton Rouge

Hand-crafted from solid French white oak, this little table expands to almost double its surface area thanks to a pair of drop leaves which when extended are supported by legs that swing out like gates, hence the name. As is the case in Normandie where this example was found, the top has been bordered with fine hand-carved embellishment and the edge a foliate gadrooning. Spiral fluted legs are connected by stretchers carved with texturing, and even the drawer pull is surrounded by carved adornment!
Circa 1890s.
Measures 22.5 x 14 x 23.5; opens to 23.5 x 30.5.
