Location: Dallas

A stunningly well-preserved Morbier movement rests inside this impressive casework, hand-crafted by master Liegoise cabinetmakers out of the preferred indigenous old-growth French white oak. A handsome arched crown centered with a crest is flanked by mitered corners, and the molded detail that is required just in that upper section alone is truly a testament to the cabinemaker's skills. Fine molding pervades the piece, with the center pendulum section lavished with stylized shell and foliate motifs, leading the eye down to the relatively unadorned base with its subtle lyre shape motif.
Truly a study in understated elegance!
Circa 1870s.
