The one door buffet was originally designed for especially tight spaces, and proved to be an ideal place to store confits, jams & preserves over the winter. The form evolved into the various styles that have emanated from the Continent over the centuries, and this example is defined by its tailored architecture and Henri II-inspired look. Hand-crafted from solid French walnut, the detail in the bas relief on the door depicts the Virgin Mary, with elaborate detail especially across the drawer facade which is flanked by the pleasing visages of angels.
Truly a remarkable work of devotion!
