The refined nature of buffets produced during the early years of the Beaux Artes period are usually described as Henri II style, which means today a refined, more abstract interpretation of the Renaissance style which is a complex subject unto itself! This example, rendered from beautiful French walnut, features an exquisite architectural prominence that includes corbels atop fluted pilasters separating the raised panels of the cabinet doors, themselves carved with urns, drapery, florals and foliates. Quatrefoil overlay provides a suitable base adornment, atop turned feet, while diagonal fluting provides contrast on the drawer facades, which have been fitted with cast bronze pulls. Luxurious rouge marble tops it all!
