Specially commissioned by an affluent merchant in Milan, this piece appears to be a simple commode, but is in fact more ~ much more! Open the intricately-accessed interior and you'll discover that it was custom-made for his wife's extensive jewelry collection. The upper drawers open conventionally, but to open the bottom compartments, one has to unlock the center "drawer" which is really a dropfront door, which then allows the two lower side cabinet doors to open. Completely enveloped in fine burl wood and meticulously executed inlay, then mounted with bronze work specifically designed for this piece, it has been completely and utterly finished on all three sides, making it just as breathtaking from any angle. Opulent marble top is the fitting treatment for this truly unique one-of-a-kind collectible!
