Sculpted from solid walnut by talented Italian artisans during the latter half of the 19th century, this imposing bookcase will instantly become the focal point of any room! Multiple tiers of varied hand-carved moldings separate the sections of the work, culminating in the grand arched crown. Angelic figures above contrast with the muscled Atlas statuary below to create a wonderful duality. Exceptional full relief carving on the bonnet, cabinet doors, and especially the cornerposts must be studied at length to be fully appreciated. Spacious glazed tier above includes glazing on the side panels and provides excellent display possibilities. Remember this was produced before the advent of electric lighting, so the use of available light was tantamount. The doors below open to reveal a cavernous interior, and even the side panels are carved to match the frontispiece. Interestingly, no drawers were designed into the work, and of course none are needed. Truly an exceptional work of art destined to become your family's legacy!
