The Baroque style was in vogue during the reign of Louis XIV, and it is he who brought it to world prominence during the waning years of the 17th century and the dawn of the 18th. This example, crafted during the Beaux Artes period during a revival, boasts superlative craftsmanship from the massive, bowfront casework to the fluted cornerposts accented in gold, to the exquisite hand-cast bronze ormolu mounts, pulls and keyguards, and of course the opulent beveled rouge marble top. The artisans used a combination of satinwood, mahogany and walnut to create visual interest that is only enhanced by the intricate detailing of the bronze adornment which must be closely examined to be fully appreciated!
