A handsome addition to any room, this Louis XV-inspired clock from the late 19th century features an intricately inlaid casework with bronze mounts that captivate the eye, and almost make one forget the original purpose of the device was to tell time! In working condition, one can see the excellent state of preservation from the photos above. Crafted using a rosewood case, the ebeniste who crafted it used basswood for contrast in the inlays, making a lovely naturalistic foliate pattern across the entire facade. Amazing detail also abounds in the cast bronze dial face fitted with hand-painted porcelain numerals and sporting contrasting hands.
