French walnut has been celebrated for centuries as one of the finest furniture woods extant, and this table clearly illustrates that truism. Finely grained, warm of color, and hardness combined with carvability, makes it revered by all who know their woods. This example, crafted in the classical manner so favored by Louis XVI, features tapered and fluted column legs adorned with acanthus plumes, and joined to the apron via plinth blocks carved with acanthus rosettes. Beaded gadrooning and fluting on the apron provide an elegant framework for the expansive top, with fully rounded ends so that there are no sharp corners. Easily able to accommodate six to eight diners in style, this table is perfect for an elegant repast.
