Sculpted from select French walnut in a glorious celebration of the bounty of the earth, this stunning wall barometer features a mechanism from Holland, noted for their precision instrumentation in this period. The sculptor, inspired by the Renaissance, depicts an urn above and cascading spray below bursting with fruit, with foliates and scrollwork displayed in an interesting manner surrounding the barometer itself. Such devices were critical to 19th century families who did not have the advantages of Doppler Radar and 24 hour weather channels. Showing a remarkable state of preservation, this will surely become an instant family heirloom!
