Sculpted from dense, old-growth French white oak to last for generations, this elegant vaisselier hails from the talented artisans of Normandie, who have developed a particularly independent style over the centuries. Boasting a bold chapeau de gendarme cornice lavished with a full relief floral bouquent in a basket as its centerpiece, it features three contoured and carved shelves to hold keepsakes leading the eye down to the unobstructed generous serving surface. Below that, two spacious drawers and two cavernous cabinets, all carved to perfection with traditional wildflowers, foliates, and even another floral basket. The undulating apron, centered with a shell motif, is supported by scrolled legs carved with acanthus plumes and escargot.
A superb example of Country French style!
Circa 1870s.
