This exceptional still life depicts a bountiful harvest, displaying the artist's abilities in the forms of realism expression, light, shadow and color. Such compositions rose in popularity in mid-19th century Europe prior to the impressionist movement to come.
This work was painted by Francois Willem De Virieu (1789- 1876) just eight years before his death. In an exhibition in Hertogenbosch he won the first place silver metal which is on display at Stadskasteel Zaltbommel museum. His works also have appeared in the Flipje Museum and Steekmuseum Tiel Museum.
