Most Italian historians will agree that the Baroque period was one of excellence in the city-state of Venice, where artisans flocked from all around Europe to immerse themselves in the wealth of artistic talent during that era. This example recalls those heady days, with graceful cabriole legs whose carvings are accentuated in gold highlighting, as are the panels and carvings on the scrolled apron above. A fitting piece of marble has been carefully contoured and beveled by hand to provide the carefree and elegant surface.
