Carved from solid French walnut, this wonderful sculpture of a teacher depicts her in the act of conducting a lesson, complete with large textbook. In those days central heat was but a dream, so even though classes were held indoors, everyone was obliged to dress accordingly, as ably depicted by the sculptor in her flowing dress and cape, with bonnet to cover her head.
