Antique Wine Accessories & Giveaway

Antique Letter EngravingThe art of wine making has been revered by countless civilizations.  In ancient mythology the subject was so worshiped that Bacchus, the god of wine and frivolity was created by grateful Romans and Greeks who were enamored by the elixirs that only the gods could have bestowed upon us. Today we do not build antique alters to the deity of libation, but instead erect wine rooms, caves and sellers to house and display prestigious vintages of precious grape harvests.

On our antique buying trips we always scour the European countryside to find antique and vintage wine accessories created by winemakers ~ sometimes many decades and even centuries ago. These vineyard relics are truly cultural affects of a proud industry steeped in grand traditions, and they bring instant ambiance to our kitchens, wine rooms and cellars.  We were so thrilled to have vast quantities of these desirable items in our last to container to Baton Rouge, and even more arriving soon to our stores in Dallas and Plano.

And now as promised…the Giveaway.  To go with our wine themed topic we have a charming antique wicker-covered bonbonne.  It didn’t take long for glassmakers to realize that their carefully made hand-blown creations were inordinately fragile.  Some clever person came up with the idea of wrapping the bottles with wet wicker, that when dried clung to the bottles like a second skin, providing a lot more durability during transport.   Each is one of a kind, adding a great vineyard flair and rustic country texture to any interior!

Antique Inspirations: Antique Tapestry Vignette

Antique Letter EngravingHope your weekend is going well!  We have been so busy rearranging the stores and displaying all the new arrivals.  Just few days ago I took some time to set up and style a quick photo shoot.  As we were hanging a tapestry above an antique buffet that just arrived in our most recent container, a lovely still life setting developed, so we wanted to share the inspiration.  This vintage tapestry was designed as a portiere almost a hundred years ago.  These were used by the French to cover doors, draping them in the winter to keep drafts at bay.  It is trimmed in its original velvet with perfectly preserved greige tones.  We love the texture of velvet as it adds an unmistakable feeling of warmth to the design of a room.
