No, your eyes do not deceive you, this is indeed a pair of commodes, crafted from exotic imported woods by Parisian master artisans! Four disciplines were necessary for the creation of these jewels ~ first the cabinetmaker must produce two identical cases with undulating bombe shapes that were a hallmark of the rococo movement. Next, the ebeniste skillfully applies marquetry veneers in specific, artistic patterns on the entire exterior (excluding only the back side). Then, the metalsmith casts bronze ormolu mounts to not only adorn and accent the facades, but to protect the more exposed protrusions in the design. Lastly, the stonemason contours and bevels a specially selected slab of marble into two top pieces to provide the perfect surface. Discovered in excellent condition, only a minimal amount of cleaning and waxing was necessary to bring them to their full potential, ready to grace your home or office for the next several generations!
