Location: Baton Rouge

During the Napoleon III period Parisian artists began copying the japanning technique by impregnating carbon black into the wood surface and bringing it to a high polish. This example features gold highlights on the trim molding which complements the bronze ormolu mounts in the flutes of the columns. Brass wire inlay adorns the cabinet's façade, while Carrara marble provides the perfect surface.
Circa 1860s.
