Location: Baton Rouge

Entirely hand-crafted from dense, old-growth quarter-sawn French white oak, this buffet has survived over two centuries of time, and features the classical designs of the Louis XVI style prevalent during its original production. Rural artisans frequently copied the styles emanating from the courts of Paris, and this example features hand-carved embellishments in bas relief including fabric swags with rosettes on the drawer facades and urns bursting with floral sprays on the raised, chamfered door panels. Original brass keyguards and hinges add a nice touch.
Circa 1770s.
Measures 42 x 54 x 19.
