Late 19th Century Rustic Country French Raised Cabinet represents a centuries-old design that harks back to an era when specialized storage cabinets were in high demand by the affluent.  This example, rendered from solid old-growth oak, features pegged mortise & tenon joinery, chamfered plank panels across the back, and a cabinet that is raised up for easy access upon a pediment of collonnades with turned columns.  Such pieces would appear in libraries, studies, and hallways, and provide safe storage for items particular to the usage for that part of the manoir.  Forged steel hinges, lockworks and key guards add a nice touch, as do the notched brackets on the interior that allow one to adjust the shelf to whatever height needed.  Subtle yet artistic cabinetry is apparent in the door panels, side panels, and touches such as the rosettes on the arches below.
