Discovered in Rouen, this stunning eighteenth century commode was crafted during the reign of Louis XVI and fashioned after the classical style favored by the king and his court. Hand-crafted from select old-growth French white oak, the preferred medium in the region, it features a tailored architecture with fluted cornerposts framing teh drawer facade. A step-front section at the center adds visual interest and is the backdrop for delicate foliate bas relief. Dashed and beaded trim outlines the remainder of the panels on the facade. Constructed with handmade pegged mortise & tenon joinery, it was designed to last for many generations!
