Renaissance Revival decorative shield and swords have been fashionable for masculine decors since ancient Greece and Rome were the prominent civilizations in Western Europe. This example, exquisitely embossed with a myriad of bellicose motifs, features a pair of short swords immortalized by the Romans, each called a gladius, the source of the word gladiator today.
