This intriguing type of table served both as a temporary safe as well as a table from which payroll could be distributed. It has been rendered exclusively from old-growth French white oak and carved with Renaissance-inspired motifs on the apron. The top slides over to reveal access to the interior, supposedly making it more difficult to open if one did not possess the key. Contoured urn-shaped side supports and trestle provide support.
Circa 1850s.
Measures 30 x 31.5 x 20.5.
