Utilizing exotic imported mahogany as the primary source of beauty, artisans of the Louis Philippe period eschewed bronze ornamentation, heavy carvings or marquetry to exude a sense of austerity which was prevalent in French society at the time. This example makes bold use of crown molding with extended corners as well as bold molding around the door panels and base to define the tailored lines. Turned feet mirror the crown's corners and complete the look.
