Grand Antique Empire Period Mahogany Marble Top Commode, created during the Empire Period to emulate the classical designs of Greece and Egypt whose territories were briefly conquered by Napoleon Bonaparte.  Ornamentation comes from the bookmatched grain of the sumptuous wood accentuated by cast bronze ormolu mounts, keyguards and drawer pulls. This commode was produced from exotic imported mahogany in Paris in an early par of 19th century, and boasts ormolu decorated corner-posts and its original stone black marble top. Beautiful and sumptuous piece of antique French furniture.
