Sculptor Ernest Rancoulet (1870-1915) performed some of his finest work concurrent with the Moreau family, who together set the pace for the genre during the heady days of the Beaux Artes period. This work, entitled "Recompense" (reward or prize), depicts an exultant and beautiful young maiden celebrating her coveted prize, set in multi-hued patinaed bronze finish on spelter.
Circa 1895.
