Location: Dallas

Hand-crafted by the local barrel cooper, this water bucket was fitted with iron bands that were applied while still almost red hot so that they would shrink slightly while cooling to press the solid oak staves together creating a watertight container. An iron rod was then forged to create a handle with a dimple in it designed for a pole to be inserted so one could walk with a bucket on both sides suspended by the pole and thus carry twice as much water.
Circa 1870s.
