This stunning work was the creation of Parisian master artisans during the reign of Napoleon III, France's last emperor, represents the supremacy of 19th century French craftsmanship by which everything produced since has been judged. Soaring just under 9 feet with its massive heraldic crest cartouche atop the step-front upper tier, it features three glazed cabinets perfect for displaying one's finest collection of books, trophies, keepsakes, or whatever else one desires. The step-front center section steps out once again at the juncture of the lower tier, wherein lies a concealed secretary, making this piece not only perfect for display & storage, but work as well! Crafted from meticulously selected French walnut, it also boasts a modicum of carved accents on the cornerposts and drawer facades, even on the interior drawers, plus diamond parquet panels to enhance the visual appeal. Lower step-back cabinets on each side have glazed doors to enhance the display capabilities, and these doors were sometimes fitted with opaque sheers inside when the proud owner did not choose to show the contents.
Truly a magnificent example of supreme craftsmanship from a bygone era!
Circa 1860.
Measures 107.5 x 27 x 86.
