One of the fashionable ways to flaunt one's wealth in mid-19th century Europe was to display beautiful objets d'art around the home. This Vieux Paris mantel urn is such a specimen, the porcelain of which was fired and painted in the Orient then shipped by sailing vessel to France where talented Parisian artisans mounted exquisite bronze ormolu to the porcelain to produce such exotic and wonderful urns and the like. Boasting hand-painted foliate motifs and gilt highlighting, which sets off the bronze mounts, this example is remarkably well preserved and ready to adorn your family's home for several generations!
