16.5 x 11

Location: Baton Rouge

Due to the longevity of hand-painted tiles, it was and remains customary in Europe to salvage them from the buildings from which they were used for decoration, then continue to use them in a more portable fashion. This pair was hand-painted and fired in the late 18th century, then framed in the mid to late 19th century to create lovely wall decorations that will most probably outlast yet another structure! The scenes depict farmers passing each other on the road to market.
Circa 1780s.
Each measures 16.5 x 11.
Sold as a PAIR.
