Salvaged from a fine church that had seen better days before the wars in Europe, this pair of communion rails survived with style, due to their construction entirely of dense, old-growth French white oak. Pierce-carved panels can only be described as sculpture, with central themes of the eternal love of Jesus, His initials with a cross, a symbol of the bird sacrificing herself for her young (which also happens to be on the Louisiana State Flag), and a variety of other symbols representing Jesus's last days as a man on this earth. Grape and wheat motifs represent the body and blood of Christ, and flow effortlessly around the central symbols. Remarkable state of preservation makes this pair perfect for incorporating into your own plans!
Sold as a pair.
Circa 1840s.
Each measures 31.5 x 98 x 18.5.
