The European preference for trophies such as this pair over taxidermy was widespread, and this pair is a perfect representation of the genre. Cast bronze statues designed expressly for this purpose provided a base and stand with ring into which the horns could be fitted. A crown of bronze finished off the base of the horn for added opulence. Such trophies could be lined up on the mantel or shelf, or be used as paperweights or bookends.
