Provencal long case clock
2107-11452
(Click the Item No. for an inquiry)105.5 x 21 x 14

Location : Baton Rouge

With a case hand-crafted from solid cherry wood, this stately long case clock hails from the Languedoc region and was created during the Louis Philippe period when simplicity of form and restraint of embellishment were the norm. Pegged mortise and tenon joinery and hand-planed panels combine with the chapeau de gendarme cornice to create a perfect framework for the clockwork. The Mennard movement boasts its original hand-painted porcelain dial face with original brass hands, surrounded by an embossed brass framework that depicts Louis XIV, the Sun King, along with appropriate embellishments, and a pair of lovebirds on the nest, which indicates its original intent may have been as a wedding gift. Fully restored to working order!
Circa 1840s.
Measures 104.5 x 21 x 14.
