Many will mistake the warm tones of this buffet for walnut, when in fact it's old-growth French white oak, carved to perfection to depict the grape and wheat harvests, with the dual meaning of the substance of the Last Supper. Set on oval frames raised above the cabinet door surface, they are flanked by lavishly carved cornerposts depicting the bounty of the earth. Boldly carved drawer tier and gadrooned top edge add a nice touch, with the drawer pulls being formed out of the full relief carvings of undulating vines. Even the sides are carved to perfection!
Circa 1840s.
