In this painting we can see the richness of antique objects assembled in this still life - a Cararra marble corinthian capital, an Italian mandolin, beer stein, bonbonne and luscious fruit. The subjects in the painting are an allegory for all of the things one needs in this life to experience a joie de vivre ~ theatre, the arts, good drink, classic architecture, music, and of course, good food!
Flemish school, circa early 1940s.
