Crafted during the Art Nouveau period from solid European white oak, this exceptionally well-preserved fireplace mantel/surround features hand-carved sculpture on both sides depicting lions's heads, elaborate corbels with acanthus flourishes, and a fierce Norseman's head. Bold molding permeates the design, with the traverse across the opening centered with a cast bronze lion's head which matches the fireplace fender (below, left). Truly a magnificent way to create the ultimate focal center of a room!
